In long-haul transport, you have to give it your all – but not when it comes to fuel.
The MAN TGX D38 has a tailored powertrain with numerous new efficiency functions and is designed for demanding transport tasks.
The core element is the newly developed D38 six-cylinder inline engine with a displacement of 15.2 litres. This power unit stands for superb power delivery and extends the TGX model range by the HP classes 520, 560 and 640 HP*.
With the TGX D38, MAN consistently placed an emphasis on the total cost of ownership (TCO) and combines
to form an extraordinarily powerful total package.
The MAN TGX D38 represents an ideal vehicle platform for the application areas building site, timber industry and cranes. It is available in normal and medium overall heights and with robust steel bumpers. The TGX D38 reaches its rated torque already at a speed of 930 rpm. Full torque can also be used in a wide speed range from 930 to 1 350 rpm. In heavy-duty applications, the TGX D38 thus has superior pulling power from the bottom speed range and can shift up early and can maintain the high gears at high torques. The maximum torques of 2 500 Nm (520 HP), 2 700 Nm (560 HP) and 3 000 Nm (640 HP*) are available in all gears.
The design of the top model
The MAN TGX D38 can be identified on the road by its special design features:
A tailored powertrain with new gear functions
The D38 six-cylinder inline engine with a displacement of 15.2 litres combines a superb performance with superior efficiency. With up to 640 HP*, the engine offers the highest traction force for all requirements, with a weight that is 160 kg lighter than the most powerful Euro 5 engine D28 V8 – this provides an additional payload benefit.
MAN TipMatic® 2 – New fuel-saving gear functions
In all model versions, the TGX D38 is combined with the MAN TipMatic® 2. It offers three new gear functions for even more efficiency combined with a high output:
The GPS-controlled cruise control MAN EfficientCruise®
The GPS-controlled cruise control MAN EfficientCruise® uses saved map material to detect upward and downward gradients in the route ahead. The truck thus drives automatically with special foresight, i.e. it can build up momentum in a targeted manner before an upward gradient and, at the end of the gradient, can coast over the hilltop at reduced speed.
The use of MAN EfficientCruise® in long-haul or distribution transport can reduce the fuel consumption by up to 6% - without time loss in transit. Even after many hours of driving, MAN EfficientCruise® can still open the throttle with exceptional sensitivity, allowing drivers to concentrate fully on their driving task.
Within the framework of a desired speed and speed tolerance selected by the driver, MAN EfficientCruise® calculates a speed suitable for consumption-optimised upward and downward travel on hills and adapts the driven speed accordingly.
The TGX D38 model range
The model diversity of the most powerful TGX reflects the variety of its fields of application. It is available as a left- and right-hand drive vehicle and can be combined with the cabs XL, XLX and XXL.
MAN offer numerous axis formulae as semitrailer tractors and chassis for superstructures. Long-haul transport and heavy-duty customers can select semitrailer tractors and chassis with 4x2 leaf-air suspension and 4x2 full air suspension. The three-axle vehicles with wheel formula 6x2 plus front or trailing axles also offer a higher permissible gross weight. As a 6x4 with double-axis drive, the TGX D38 guarantees the best traction for semitrailer tractors and heavy-duty chassis. The four-axle heavy-duty vehicles in the 8x4/4 configuration are fitted with three rear axles with a gross weight of up to 41 tons and have a gross combination weight of 250 tons.
In power-intensive heavy-duty transport, the MAN TGX D38 with Overdrive gearboxes (OD) general transport up to 65 tons. The heavy-goods version with converter clutch and OD gearbox has no problem with gross combination weights of up to 250 tons.
